Reversing Illnesses: A Personal Story
-

There I was again at the doctor’s office and expecting my second child, when I heard it again: “Mrs. Melgar your blood sugar is a little high again” “You have gestational diabetes”.
I have heard the same diagnosis before when I was expecting my first child and I had not done anything about it, after all, the doctor had told me that it will go away after my pregnancy was over. And I thought it did. Did I need to worry this second time around? A little inside voice told me that I should.
I started to realize that I had been feeling very tired even after the birth of my first baby. “it is normal” friends, co-workers and relatives would say: “you just became a mother”. I went to the doctor and he gave me some pills. I was not feeling better so he increased the dosage. I developed urinary tract infections and he gave me antibiotics. I was in three kinds of medicines and I felt worse than ever. I even had an ulcer and internal inflammation.
Due to the second pregnancy I decided to stop all my medicines. I have read that it is not good for the baby to take pills, and I wanted my baby to be healthy. I went home determined to research my condition. The more I read about it, the more concerned I became. I asked about my relative’s health history and found out that diabetes runs in both maternal and paternal families. I also found out that it also runs in my husband’s family. What was I to do? Where did I even start? What did the family history mean for my own children? Many of my relatives were overweight and even my first daughter was on the heavy side at the tender age of four years old.
I made the conscious decision to think differently about the way we eat and began to trust the amazing healing and protective power of our bodies. I realized that that there is no quick fix, no magic pill or magic fountain. I also came to the sounding conclusion that nutrition along with a healthy life style is the solid foundation that keeps everything together to achieve optimum health. Essential nutrition boosts your body defenses to live longer, stronger and prevents disease.
I am not claiming that all or even most cases of diabetes and obesity can be reversed through healthy food preparation and cooking. However I personally have had the fortunate experience to reverse my diseases, improve my family’s health, increase endurance, reduce cholesterol, lower blood sugar levels and live in optimum health.
